One of the advantages of travelling somewhere where you know some people is that you have some excellent, personal guides. We had carefully planned our trip, yet this stunning lake wasn't on our list. Luckily we had a local on our side who knew all the top spots! Right alongside this tiny, unmarked parking, a trail led us into the woods to the stunning Horseshoe Lake. It was so quiet and oh so beautiful. We absolutely loved this! -2°C can apparantly still be bikini weather 😂 We found the Lussier Hot Springs a couple of miles down a forestry road next to the highway. These natural hot springs are such an amazing temperature especially compared to the freezing mountain air. One of the main highlights to anyone travelling to the Canadian Rockies: Moraine Lake. And we can certainly see why! The colour of this icy blue water isn't photoshopped, it simply just looks as beautiful as that! We have seen tons of pictures of Moraine Lake before, but to be able to see it in this winter setting was such a different and beautiful experience. One of the benefits of having family abroad is that you get to travel to some magnificent locations for family occasions. This weekend we were invited to the beautiful wedding of one of Lynn's Canadian cousins. And well, when in Canada, you gotta head into nature! So the next two weeks we will be roadtripping through the Canadian Rocky Mountains together with Lynn's brother and sister-in-law! This little, hidden street is over 500 years old. Just like our stunning city hall you see here in the background. That means that for over 500 years people of all sorts of time periods have walked through here with one similar view. Perhaps chatting about the discovery of the New World or about some sort of revolution happening in France. Or about the latest iPhone 😉 It's so crazy when you think about it that way, don't you agree? It's all in the details! We have been living in Leuven for our entire lives, yet we still get amazed each time we walk across the Grote Markt. Not just because of the stunning, historical buildings or the lovely atmosphere, but because of the amount of detail that went into this place. Every buildings façade tells a story. Our city hall for example is covered in these little statues all related to our city's history or the Bible. Or can you spot Mary on top of one of the buildings? She was put there with a coat of arms of the city and two burning fires to represent the martyrstatus of Leuven after the First World War when it was largely burned to ashes. This also gave the name 'Notre Dame' to the restaurant that resides there nowadays. 😉 Many more stories are to be discovered here!
