We visit Amsterdam a few times a year on family visits. We love and know this amazing city very well, but each time we come across a cool, new thing to do! 😍 Our latest discovery has been the tower of the Oude Kerk (Old Church). We climbed the tower by climbing some very narrow and steep stairs, which was quite an adventure in itself! Meet the Three Brothers! These three houses come from very different time periods. Legend has it that they were all constructed by the same family of builders! The white house on the right dates back to around 1490 which makes it the oldest brother. The middle house is coincidentally also the middle brother as it was constructed in the first half of the 17th century. The youngest brother is the smallest and was built in the second half of the 17th century. For the romantic souls among you: Riga has a bridge of love! You already know the principle behind it: engrave your initials on a padlock, lock it and throw away the key as a symbol of your everlasting love. Do you know however where this tradition comes from? During the First World War, a Serbian woman and a Serbian soldier both from the town Vrnjačka Banja, fell in love. The soldier however had to leave for war, where he fell in love with another woman. As to not suffer this heartbreaking fate, the other couples of the town started the love lock tradition to symbolize their love for each other.
