Sydney is a city that seems to have it all: outgoing residents, charming architecture, stunning beaches and an international cuisine. Treat yourself to an amazing city break during your Aussie trip and remember to visit the following astonishing highlights!
Of course this iconic landmark made it to the list! You can’t think of Sydney without imagining yourself next to the opera house. We recommend you check out this majestic building, have a seat on the lovely steps and relax in the sweet Sydney sunshine. If you love music, be sure to check out one of the shows. Otherwise it is still worth the visit to admire the great architecture.
Another magnificent piece of architecture is the Harbour Bridge. You can choose how you want to explore this beauty: with your feet firmly on the ground or by getting an amazing adrenaline rush during the bridge climb. Bonus points: if you want to get an amazing photo of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge together, we recommend that you head to Mrs Macquaries Point.
Darling Harbour is a wonderful place filled with cafés, museums and other attractions. If you are looking for a rather relaxed day, this is the place to be! Head to one of the interesting museums, to a cosy bar for happy hour and fill your stomach with some of the best food you’ll ever eat. Enjoy the harbor views and people watching from one of the many lovely terraces.
Coogee To Bondi Coastwalk
If you love coastal views and the outdoors, this scenic hike is the one for you! The 5km walk in itself is very easy. Just wear some comfortable shoes. From the CBD you can take a bus to Coogee and from there on walk to Bondi on your own pace. Bringing a picknick is a great idea, since there are lots of beautiful places where you can spread out your blanket. Enjoy the gorgeous views of the ocean from the various cliffs and don’t forget to take that perfect photo!
We stayed right next to Chinatown during our city break in Sydney. The people are very welcoming, the souvenirs are cheap and the food is great. The big highlights of this area include Paddy’s Markets and the classic Chinese gates. Savour this lively part of town by wandering around and grabbing a bite.
The trip from Sydney to Taronga Zoo already starts in an exciting way. First, you will have to take the ferry ride from Circular Quay. When you arrive, you take the gondola to the zoo. Here you can already get some amazing views from the zoo. When you get there, you can visit various animals in beautiful enclosures. Definitely head to the giraffes: over here you can admire the gorgeous city skyline next to these gorgeous creatures.
The Rocks is an urban, touristic area filled with history. The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors. You can still daydream about the old times while taking an organized tour and taking in the interesting stories. Explore the local markets, have a drink at one of the old pubs and admire the fun little shops while walking across the cobblestone streets.
Queen Victoria Building
During a rainy day, you might be up for some (window) shopping. The Queen Victoria Building oozes elegance with its curving staircases, stained glass windows and large authentic clocks. Indulge in High Tea in the Tea Shop or get that amazing piece of clothing you have always wanted. Of course, if you are on a tight budget, this place is also amazing to enjoy with just your eyes.
Sydney is also an amazing place to start out your roadtrip throughout Australia. A fantastic idea would be to drive to Adelaide and see Melbourne and Kangeroo Island along the way. To be certain you will have a great trip, we recommend using a quality travel agency such as TUI. You can find an itinerary right here.
We hope you learned a thing or two about these impressive features of the fantastic city of Sydney. Don’t forget to let us know in the comments whether you agree with our list or if you have anything to add. We would also love it if you could tag us in your Sydney pictures!
